Course Outline

The purpose of this course is to provide basic technical information and procedures required for the hydraulic design of culverts, storm drains, and channels. This course contains design criteria and information used in the design of drainage structures. For more complexity of the subject it may require referring to additional design manuals for more detailed information on the subject.

This course includes a multiple choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Course Summary

The function of a culvert is to convey surface water across a highway, railroad, or other embankments. In addition to the hydraulic function, the culvert must carry construction, highway, railroad, or other traffic and earth loads. Culvert design involves both hydraulic and structural design considerations. The hydraulic aspects of culvert design are provided for in this course.
