John Huang, Ph.D., PE and John Poullain, PE This two-hour course provides an overview for the planning, design and selection of dredged material as a manageable, beneficial resource as an alternative to normal methods of disposal. Land creation with dredged material often consists of filling, raising and protecting areas that are periodically submerged. The types of areas considered in this course are parks, agricultural, forest, solid waste landfill, industrial, commercial and residential use. Habitat development, which includes wetland, island and aquatic habitats, is not discussed here. You are required to study the following US Army Corps of Engineers Manual: Chapters 1- 3, 11- 13 and 15 of Beneficial Use of Dredged Material EM 1110-2-5026 (1987 Edition, 66 pages). This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD.
