Learning Units (Hours)
John Poullain, P.E.
This three-hour online course provides technical data and information to understand common stormwater wet pond and wetland maintenance problems and possible solutions. The goal is to establish standards for inspections, routine and less frequent maintenance for managing wetlands. The course discusses the benefits of properly maintained wetlands – improved water quality, habitat, health and safety and recreation issues, aesthetics and how benefits are impacted when not properly maintained. It covers the various classes, characteristics, and objectives of wetlands and the hydrodynamics and functions of water control structures, levees and spillways. Government regulations for protecting water quality and the environment are discussed.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
