Phytoremediation has become in the past decade considered more for commercial applications. The market value of this technology has been valued at over 700 million in 2005. This course looks at the various types of phytoremediation: phytoextraction, phytostabilization, phytovolatization and phytofiltration including the use of transgenic plants to remove heavy metal contamination. Discussion of traditional technologies is also briefly reviewed. How phytoremediation can complement traditional approaches is also discussed.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
