The development of rail transportation has played a significant role in shaping modern society, economy, and infrastructure. From the Transcontinental Railroad that connected the east and west coasts of the United States in the late 19th century to today's high-speed trains that can travel at speeds over 300 km/h, rail transportation has undergone significant evolution. This course will examine the history, technology, and social impact of rail transportation in the past 150 years. We will explore the technological advancements that have revolutionized rail transportation, including the development of diesel and electric locomotives, signaling systems, and track infrastructure.
