Learning Units (Hours)
Ruben A. Gomez, PE
Since the beginning of times man felt a need to protect himself from the inclemency of Nature. After coming out of the caves, he decided to build a cover by placing sticks together one on top of each other, as he conceived a shelter against wind, rain, snow and hail.
It took an evolutionary process for that rustic shelter to become a more comfortable home, however still built on the same stick-by-stick principle. It was until 200 years ago when he figured out the concepts of prefabrication and industrialized housing.
Industrialized housing normally takes place in a covered and well protected factory with a controlled environment. However, in this course we will describe the same principles of prefabrication in one of its variants where the modules and components are all produced at the construction site.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
