This course introduces Prevention through Design (PtD)—also known as Design for Safety—showing how to “design out” hazards across a facility’s life cycle using the hierarchy of controls. You’ll learn PtD’s strategic goals, relevant OSHA/NIOSH guidance, and practical methods for eliminating, substituting, and engineering out risks in architecture, construction, and operations. We’ll examine roof parapets, embedded anchors, and other permanent features that reduce falls, along with decision-making tools, checklists, and specification language that integrate safety into design reviews, procurement, and commissioning.
NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD.
