Based on FAA Advisory Circular AC 150/5300-13B (Change 1), this course introduces the FAA’s airport design standards and recommendations and how they are applied to achieve safe, efficient airport facilities. Participants will explore how “standards,” “recommended practices,” and regulatory “requirements” are used in design decisions, and how critical-aircraft considerations shape runway, taxiway, and apron geometry. The course also highlights safety-focused design principles—such as reducing runway incursion and wrong-surface-event risk—and explains how the FAA addresses site constraints through the modification-of-standards process and safety management practices. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD.
