Lee Layton, PE This 5-hour course explains the purpose, design, and application of small modular reactors (SMRs). The course begins with an overview of electric power generation, conventional nuclear power, and the role of SMRs in the evolving energy mix. SMRs enable electric power providers to deploy small modulator reactors as needed. Each unit is approximately 300 MW, and the nuclear facility can be scaled by just adding more SMRs. This concept is in its infancy and there are several functioning SMR in place worldwide. The application of SMR is expected to grow dramatically in the coming years. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
