Basic and Derived Measurement Units for Engineers

Michael J. Hamill, PE

Many engineers use units of measurement regularly. This course takes a very close look at units of measurement themselves, particularly S.I., or International System units. It explains that the two main systems of measurement units in widespread use in the world are S.I. (International System) units, better known as the metric units, and British units. A very practical method of using measurement units is introduced and explained in this course. The S.I. system grew out of an urgent need to create a system of measurements for the entire world which met the needs for order, scientific precision and consistency. The International System, or metric system, is now the dominant measurement system in use across the world.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
