Building Elevators: Design & Installation

Jurandir Primo, PE

This course is a basic introduction for Building Elevators, intended to show the most important techniques for civil and mechanical design procedures for traction and hydraulic building lift systems. There are dozens of types and models of elevators, which are typically designed for vertical movement, although some may have some slight slope depending on the location. Building elevators are also called lifts, particularly in British English, or known as passenger elevators, hoists, and sometimes by specific terms like residential lifts or freight elevators, depending on their purpose within the building. Lift, is a common synonym, especially in British English, for the same device that carries people and goods to different levels of a building. Residential elevator/lifts are also used for homes, especially those with multiple floors.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
