This online PDH course provides a comprehensive introduction to the life cycle management of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) used in electric vehicles (EVs), emphasizing sustainable practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory trends. It explores strategies to extend battery life, enable second-life applications, and promote circular-economy principles through reuse, remanufacturing, and advanced recycling techniques.
Participants will gain insight into the technical, economic, and environmental dimensions of battery end-of-life (EOL) management, including challenges related to battery disassembly, material recovery, logistics, and safety. The course highlights the advantages and limitations of the key recycling pathways — pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, and direct recycling — and examines how design for disassembly can enhance recovery efficiency. Real-world case studies and current industry practices provide a practical foundation for understanding second-life applications in stationary energy storage and grid support.
Additional modules address critical-mineral supply chains, international policy frameworks such as China's GB/T standards and the European Union battery regulations, traceability tools including RFID and blockchain, and emerging business models such as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). Together these topics equip learners to implement responsible, low-impact battery life-cycle strategies that support electric mobility, resource conservation, and global decarbonization goals.
