Supporting tank projects has become more challenging with more and more sites located at sites that provide less than favorable support conditions for above ground storage tanks. Typically, rigid type solutions composed of deep foundations are often chosen to support tanks in these challenging conditions, however with sophisticated design methods coupled with proper field QA/QC during construction, Ground Improvement (GI) support solutions have been used for more than 20 years with adequate performance. This presentation will provide a background for understanding the GI support options available as well as a few case histories to showcase their use.
