Ground Improvement and Deep Foundation Solutions (Live Seminar)

Dennis Boehm and Brian J. Freilich, Ph.D., PE

This seminar provides an introduction to ground improvement solutions typically used in the Louisiana / Gulf Coast region (stone columns, rigid inclusions, and soil mixing), discusses where/when to use them, provides engineering design considerations, and presents some innovative uses of intermediate foundation solutions (including jet grouting, helical piles, and micropiles) to solve geotechnical challenges for new and existing (remediation) structures. In addition, we discuss drilled deep foundation elements used in the Gulf Coast region (drilled shafts and augered cast-in-place piles) and some quality control considerations for selecting the appropriate solution. Included are case histories in which multiple solutions have been used to provide cost-effective foundation solutions and a review of sustainability initiatives in geotechnical engineering (a Keller perspective).

Keller North America provides a wide range of geotechnical engineering and construction services to improve soils in place and to both construct new and rehabilitate foundations. The techniques that will be discussed include Compaction & Jet Grouting, Earth Retention and Shoring, Vibro Compaction & Replacement, Micropiles, Soil Mixing for Deep Basement Excavations, and Pile Driving. Within our range of services, a Ground Modification solution is generally available for the toughest subsurface conditions.
