Belling Piles – Lessons Learned from Production and Testing (Live Webinar)

Axel Ruiken, Ph.D.

In this webinar, we share the lessons learned from the production and load testing of belled piles (drilled shafts) close to the Kohlbrand Bridge over the River Elbe project in Hamburg, Germany. This 5-km-long bridge and elevated roadway is being designed on over 2000 drilled shafts. We have entered into a large and significant pile construction and testing program to better evaluate shaft performance and ensure a safe, practical, and efficient design. Some of the belled piles are battered. In addition, we discuss the lessons learned from the load testing of pile groups. The 5-km bridge is planned to be supported on drilled shafts, including 42 groups of piles. Two 5-pile groups are tested to better evaluate performance and understanding of pile groups.

Keller North America provides a wide range of geotechnical engineering and construction services to improve soils in place and to both construct new and rehabilitate foundations. The techniques that will be discussed include Compaction & Jet Grouting, Earth Retention and Shoring, Vibro Compaction & Replacement, Micropiles, Soil Mixing for Deep Basement Excavations, and Pile Driving. Within our range of services, a Ground Modification solution is generally available for the toughest subsurface conditions.
