This course is designed to equip engineers, architects, and land surveyors with the knowledge they need to navigate intellectual property laws and regulations in their professional practice. The course material is based on the U.S. Copyright Office's comprehensive guide to copyright laws and regulations. It covers the following key topics: Definition and Importance of Copyright, Rights of a Copyright Owner, What is Not Protected by Copyright, Copyright Ownership, Duration of Copyright, Benefits of Registration, Derivative Works and Compilations, and Using Copyrighted Work. Furthermore, the course elaborates on the fundamental concepts of patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. By the end of the course, participants will be better prepared to protect their original works, understand the rights they have over their creations, and respect the copyrights, patents, and trademarks associated with the others' works. The course has a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
