Ellen Huang, PE The Citicorp Center is a famous case in engineering ethics that is often celebrated as a positive example, rather than a notorious case study of ethical failures. In this webinar, we will watch the lecture “The Fifty-Nine-Story Crisis: A Lesson in Professional Behavior” by William LeMessurier, the structural designer for the Citicorp Tower. In addition, we will go over other ethical aspects and issues related to this case. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials. *Note to New York licensed PE, LS, and RA: The acceptable continuing education subjects for NY PE/LS/RA include the study of law, rules, and/or ethics which contribute to the professional practice in engineering, architecture, and land surveying in the state of New York. In addition, you need a minimum of one-hour training in professional ethics in each triennium. This course will help you satisfy that requirement. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD. Specific course topics that are on the borderline and are not acceptable by the NY Board have been noted under the course description on our website. |
