John C. Huang, Ph.D, PE Land surveying is a regulated profession, and North Carolina licensees must understand and follow the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors’ Rules of Professional Conduct and the Standards of Practice for Land Surveying. This course explains what it means to practice with professionalism, reviews key conduct and ethics requirements that protect the public, and then focuses on the practical, day-to-day expectations in the Standards of Practice (Section .1600)—including surveying procedures, classification of surveys, and mapping requirements. The course also highlights common violations, complaint procedures, and disciplinary actions to help surveyors reduce compliance risk. Beginning with the 2024 license renewal cycle, each NC PLS must complete at least 1 PDH in the Standards of Practice for Land Surveying. This course will help you to meet this special continuing education requirement. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD. Specific course topics that are on the borderline and are not acceptable by the NY Board have been noted under the course description on our website. |
