This course introduces engineers and architects to the principles involved in designing typical components such as drive shafts, floor beams, pressure tanks, and bolted connections found in machines or structures. The content of this course covers stress, strain, mechanical properties of materials, axial loading, torsion, bending, deflection, and column stability with the emphasis on the basic concepts and real-world applications. The course content is based entirely on the textbook Mechanics of Materials by Beer, Johnson, Dewolf and Mazurek or equivalent. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD.
