Course Outline
This course provides an in-depth review of the statutes governing the practice of engineering
and land surveying in the State of New Jersey as well the ethical standards related to the profession. Students will study the relevant excerpts from Chapter 8 of Title 45 “Professions and Occupations” in the New Jersey Statutes Annotated. In addition, professional misconduct prohibited by the New Jersey Board are presented along with the requirement for reporting such incidents. This course is designed to help New Jersey professional engineers
and land surveyors meet the ethics training requirement mandated by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.
Learning Objective
At
the conclusion of this course, the student will be familiar with:
- The laws regulating the practice of engineering in the State of New Jersey;
- The standards of practice;
- The mandatory continuing education requirements; and
- The professional obligations as a licensee.
Background
The New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (the Board) is responsible for regulating the engineering profession to protect safety, health, property and welfare of the public. In 2010, the Board adopted the rules of mandatory continuing education, which require each licensee to complete twenty-four hours of professional development (24 PDHs) during each license renewal biennium. Out of the required 24 PDHs, 2 PDHs must be related to professional practice ethics. This course is designed to help you meet

Course Summary
To safeguard the life, health, property and welfare of the public, licensed professionals must fully understand the Board Laws and Rules. A licensee who violates any provision of the Board Laws and Rules may be subject to disciplinary action, such as reprimand, suspension or revocation of the license in addition to fines.
