Environmental Awareness: Introduction to Green House Gas Sources, Impacts, and Control
Robert P. Stevens, P.E., DEE
Course Outline
This course presents
basic information on the chemicals considered to be Green House Gases, the sources
of these emissions, relative emission quantities from all sectors, and how these
estimates are developed. At the completion of this course, the student should
have a basic understanding of the activities that contribute Green House Gases
and ideas on steps that can be taken to control them. Course contents include:
(1) Climate, Weather, and Green House Gases; (2) Green House Gases and Global
Warming; (3) Green House Gases and Chemicals; (4) Measuring and Reporting Green
House Gas Emissions; (5) Sources of Green House Gases in the US; (6) Overall
Trends for Green House Gases; and (7) Contributions of Green House Gases by
Sector; (8) Controlling Green House Gas Emissions; and (9) References and Information
Sources.
This course includes
a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding
of the course materials.
Learning Objective
- Difference between climate and weather;
- The chemicals that are considered Green House Gases;
- The relative contribution to Global Warming from the most common Green House Gases;
- The sources of Green House Gases;
- The contribution of Green House Gases from US sources;
- Trends in Green House Gas emissions; and
- What can be
done to control Green House Gas emissions.
Intended
Audience and Benefit
This course is intended
for those wanting an understanding of Green House Gases and Global Warming and
why these are important factors in the US economy.
This course will benefit the audience immediately with a basic understanding
