Renewable Energy Technologies on Underused, Formerly Contaminated Sites
Vincent D. Reynolds, MBA, P.E.
Course Outline
This 2 hour course will provide the reader with the knowledge regarding the most efficient types of RETs that can be placed on Limbo Lands. The types of RETs that will be discussed include; wind, solar power and biomass.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.
Learning
Objective
At the conclusion of this course, the student would have learned the following:
Intended Audience and Benefit
This is intended for environmental engineers, electrical engineers, petroleum engineers geologists, municipal engineers, project managers, and any persons working in civil engineering field or anyone with an interest in Renewable Energy Technologies on Underused, Formerly Contaminated Sites.
Course Introduction
Limbo lands are sites such as brownfields, landfills, abandoned mine lands, former industrial sites, former superfund sites, and certain government installations. These sites have the potential for use as renewable energy generating stations. Various types of renewable energy technologies (RETs) can be considered for redevelopment of limbo lands.
Course Content
This course will provide the reader with the knowledge regarding the most efficient types of RETs that can be placed on Limbo Lands. The types of RETs that will be discussed include; wind, solar power and biomass. This course material is based on the document “Converting Limbo Lands to Energy-Generating Stations: Renewable Energy Technologies on Underused, Formerly Contaminated Sites,” as published on the website of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
