Course Introduction

Not many public facilities are noticed as much as the condition of asphaltic pavement along streets and highways. Transportation rather public or private is an important part of daily life. The condition of the asphalt pavement affects the traveling public and when worn and not maintained can cause an unpleasant driving experience.

This course will cover the maintenance and repair of asphalt pavement. The focus of this course will be on extending the useful life of the pavement, maintaining the riding surface and prevent water from entering through the pavement. In order for asphalt pavement to remain useful to the traveling public, it has be inspected often, maintained well, and repaired using the most efficient and economical methods.

There are a variety of pavement repair methods from patching, to mill and resurfacing, to complete full depth repair. The type of pavement distress will determine type of repair that has to be utilized.
