Course Outline
This 2-hour online
course gives the rules, regulations and guidelines used to determine when it
is required to use Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCI) and how to properly
employ them. It will also introduce the student to breaking developments in
power controller and circuit breaker technology.
This course includes
a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding
of the course materials.
Learning Objective
At
the conclusion of this course, the student will:
- Have a better understanding of Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) Theory;
- Understand the electrical causes of household fires;
- Understand the National Electrical Code Requirements for using AFCIs;
- Understand the limits of AFCIs;
- Understand the difference between AFCIs, GFCIs and standard circuit breakers; and
- Understand the
proper use of AFCIs in branch circuits for bedrooms.

This course is
intended for Architects, Engineers and other professionals involved in the specification
and installation of circuit protection devices for residential and commercial
structures.
