Computing Nonlinear Power

Course Outline
While the currents and voltages in nonlinear circuits cannot readily be described by mathematical expressions, there are recognized methods whereby these variables may be quantified. In this course a graphical method is used to determine the power of a circuit that has nonlinear currents. The method used is called midpoint approximation. The method uses a number of narrow rectangles to approximate the area under the plot of instantaneous power. It is demonstrated that this approach yields accuracies that are more than sufficient for most engineering purposes.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Course Introduction
Very often nonlinearities in an electrical circuit are benign and of no consequence. On the other hand significant nonlinearities can cause problems of various types. So, there exists a need to calculate the power of notices nonlinearities. Those equations which are applicable to linear voltages and currents are inapplicable to nonlinear variables. This course teaches an easily-understood method of determining the power of a nonlinear circuit.
