Basic Process Design Engineering for Non Process Engineers
Peter Smith, HNC (Mech)
Course Outline
This is a 3 hour course using the NORSOK Standard P-001 - "Process Design".
The NORSOK Standards are a set of standards and specifications that have been adopted by numerous major Operators in the Norwegian North Sea sectors and other territories. They are based on recognised international industry codes and standards.
NORSOK Standards are aimed at the Offshore, upstream sector of the Oil and Gas industry, however P-001 uses ASME B31.3 - "Process Piping" as a base document.
It is essential
that all Engineers have a basic knowledge of Process Design and the terminology
and objectives of Process Engineers who are working on the same project.
This course includes
a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding
of the course materials.
Learning Objective
The
objective is to understand the basic Process Engineering and the scope of a
Process Engineers working on the project.
The Course will cover:
- Industry Codes and Standards
- Definitions and Abbreviations
- Design Pressure and Temperature
- Process Systems and Equipment
- Insulation and
Heat Tracing
Intended Audience
Piping Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Project Engineers, Procurement Managers and Project Buyers, QA/QC Personnel, and Inspectors.
Benefit
to Attendees
An Engineers who
is familiar with the fundamentals of Process Design and the objectives of a
Process Engineer and their job scope will find communication and problem solving
between the two disciplines easier.
Course
Introduction
It is essential
that all non Process Engineers working on a plant, have a basic knowledge of
Process Engineering, which is the fundamental discipline of a project.
Course
Content
In this course you are required to study NORSOK Standard P-001 - "Process Design".
You need to open or download these documents to study this course.
Course Summary
A project is executed by a multi-discipline team of Engineers and Designers,
who are all responsible for bringing the job to a successful conclusion. It
is therefore very important for Engineers to have a basic knowledge of Process
Engineering, which is the fundamental discipline around which the project is
built.
Quiz
Once you finish studying the above course content, you need to take a quiz to obtain the PDH credits.
