Course Outline

This one hour online course discusses the types of sumps, basic maintenance procedures for sumps and spill buckets, how to access sumps and spill buckets and what to do to ensure that the sumps and spill buckets are in good condition.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.

Course Introduction

This course is intended for owner and operator engineers who have underground storage tank (UST) systems; specifically, anyone who oversees the operation and maintenance of UST systems that contain and dispense petroleum products. UST owners/operators should ensure that only qualified personnel conduct inspection and maintenance activities.

Course Summary

This course covers recommended inspection guidelines and best management practices for sumps associated with an UST system. This course will: help the engineer identify and inspect the sumps associated with an UST system, including the equipment in the sumps.  In addition, this course will explain some simple steps that can be taken to maintain the sumps and the equipment in the sumps, as well as well as dentify potential problems.  This course will also provide tips for fixing common problems before they cause a release to the environment.
