Air Compressors – Basic Concepts and Application

Jurandir Primo, PE

Course Outline

This two-hour online course is only an introduction to one of the most important aspects of Air Compressors installations tailored for engineers, technicians, students, beginners, contractors and professionals interested in sizing Air Compressors.

This course includes a multiple choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course, the student will:

  • Understand the formulae and parameters used in the CAGI Standards as the authority on air compressors mechanical design;
  • Understand the formulae and parameters used for Air Compressors to determine the minimum required air flow process;
  • Understand the common terms used for dimensioning air tanks, driers, filters and compressed air piping inside power plants;
  • Be able to learn and recognize air density, altitude, relative humidity, air pressure and other technical terms;
  • Know the basic comprehension of the terms used in thermodynamics calculations and to remember some technical concepts; and
  • Be able of converting metric and imperial unities used in Air Compressors calculations.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for students, designers, mechanical engineers and professionals interested or working with Process Plants and Piping.

Benefit to Attendees

Attendee of this course will be able to understand, calculate, specify and plan an Air Compressor installation.

Course Introduction

The student will understand the terms, concepts and the basic principles used in CAGI Standards specification and codes.
