Course Outline

This five-hour online course is only an introduction to one of the most important aspects of the HVAC & Cooling Towers - Practical Calculations tailored for engineers, technicians, students, beginners, contractors and professionals interested in sizing HVAC equipment.

This course includes a multiple choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course, the student will:

  • Understand the formulae and parameters used in the ASHRAE Standards;
  • Understand the formulae and parameters used for HVAC and Cooling Towers;
  • Determine the minimum required conditions for HVAC flow process;
  • Understand the common terms used for dimensioning Air Handling Units;
  • Be able to learn and recognize heat, work, force, energy, power and technical terms;
  • Know how to design Centrifugal Pumps, Fans and Ducts used in HVAC systems;
  • Know the basic dimensioning of Compressors and Chillers used in HVAC systems;
  • Know the formulae to determine the minimum required area for Cooling Towers;
  • Understand the meaning of dry-bulb, dew point and wet bulb temperature;
  • Learn the terms and concepts used for Cooling Towers mechanical design;
  • Know the basic comprehension of the terms used in industrial ventilation;
  • Remember concepts and parameters used in thermodynamics;
  • Be able to design HVAC and Cooling Towers and technical concepts; and
  • Be able of converting metric and imperial units used in HVAC calculations.
