Frederic G. Snider, RPG Since the introduction of modern cell phones and the building out of cell tower infrastructure in late 2000, there has been a constant push for faster speeds and supporting more users. These goals have been addressed in various ways with each new generation of cell phone technology, which progressed from 1G to 2G to 3G to 4G and now 5G. Today, 5G is the preferred technology for a wealth of commercial, health care, and military applications, as well as personal mobile data exchange, streaming, gaming, augmented reality, autonomous vehicles, and cell phone communications. Recent studies forecast that by 2030, 50% of worldwide cellular communications will be using 5G technology. This course describes, in lay-person’s terms, how 5G cellular communication works. No knowledge of electrical engineering is required. The course is, by necessity, a “snapshot in time”, but many of the technologies used in 5G will be carried forward to future versions. Therefore, a basic understanding of today’s 5G technology provides a solid foundation for understanding how the key role of mobile communications in our lives today and in the future came to be. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD.
