Professional ethics is the study of decisions, policies and values that are morally desirable in professional practice. This course will review the various requirements of the NSPE Code of Ethics and provide a discussion of several case studies that deal with the ethical issues. It will discuss the circumstances of the cases, details and subsequent actions taken by the various state boards. It will emphasize cases related to the engineering practice in the state of New Jersey.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
*Note to New York licensed PE, LS, and RA:
The acceptable continuing education subjects for NY PE/LS/RA include the study of law, rules, and/or ethics which contribute to the professional practice in engineering, architecture, and land surveying in the state of New York. In addition, you need a minimum of one-hour training in professional ethics in each triennium. This course will help you satisfy that requirement.
NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public. NY Board does not accept courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, real estate, and basic CAD. Specific course topics that are on the borderline and are not acceptable by the NY Board have been noted under the course description on our website.
