Greg Hounsell is a graduate of Cooper Union and a licensed professional engineer in NY State. Beginning in 1974, he was a chemical engineering practitioner at Pfizer Inc. for 36 years. During that time, he was involved in food chemicals production at their Brooklyn plant (ten years) followed by various process and project engineering activities at the corporate headquarters (26 years). At corporate engineering, he provided process design support/consulting, including simulation modeling, throughout the company as requested. He conducted numerous studies evaluating air pollution control technologies for various Pfizer facilities. He additionally provided technical support to all areas of the company’s process safety activities, including release modeling, hazard analysis, facility audits, etc. He developed a corporate guideline for equipment sizing in the areas of emergency relief venting and emergency release containment.

His project management activities included responsibility for design management on capital projects in the areas of food and specialty organic chemicals, along with coordinating the activities of 20-30 design personnel of various engineering disciplines, from project estimating through detailed design.
Greg served as Pfizer’s representative to the Center for Chemical Process Safety technical steering committee for twenty years.

During his time at Pfizer, he gave numerous inter- and intra-company presentations on various subjects related to process safety and
air pollution control.

Post-retirement, Greg has presented a seminar (process safety) and webinar (energy technology) for licensed engineers to help meet continuing education requirements and serves as a part-time staff consultant at AIChE.
